Fica Combinado: Confirm a Plan in Brazilian Portuguese — Practice
A guided practice lesson with English explanations, Brazilian Portuguese examples, and answers you can check. Read the examples, recall the meaning, then say a version of your own.
Use fica combinado after people agree
Fica combinado means ‘it’s settled’ or ‘we have an agreement.’ It is useful after choosing a time, dividing a task, or confirming what will happen next. Combinado? can also check whether the other person agrees with the arrangement.
For a complete plan, repeat the important details: who will do what, where, and when. A short combinado by itself may be enough for a simple plan, but a time-sensitive arrangement benefits from a specific confirmation.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| Fica combinado: a gente se encontra às sete. | It’s settled: we’ll meet at seven. |
| Eu levo a sobremesa e você traz as bebidas. Combinado? | I’ll bring dessert and you bring the drinks. Deal? |
| Combinado! Te mando o endere ço depois. | Agreed! I’ll send you the address later. |
Distinguish a confirmed plan from a suggestion
A suggestion is not always an agreement. Before saying fica combinado, make sure the other person has accepted the plan. If something is still open, say podemos combinar depois (we can arrange it later) or ainda falta confirmar (we still need to confirm).
The expression is common in everyday speech and can be used at work for a straightforward arrangement. For a formal agreement with important conditions, put the details in the appropriate written form as well.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| Ainda falta confirmar o horário. | We still need to confirm the time. |
| Podemos combinar os detalhes amanhã. | We can work out the details tomorrow. |
| Então fica combinado para sexta-feira. | Then it’s settled for Friday. |
Remember: Use fica combinado once both people have accepted the arrangement; repeat details when time, place, or responsibility matters.
Check your understanding
Choose the English meaning of each Portuguese example. Answer before looking back at the tables. These questions check the written examples in this guide; they are not a listening or proficiency test.
Recall the Portuguese, then say it
Read the English prompt and say a Portuguese version before opening the answer. The answer shows the example from the lesson; other natural translations may also work. Compare the meaning and the situation rather than counting a different word as automatically wrong.

Make the phrase useful to you
Choose one example you could actually use. Say it once from memory, then change one detail that fits your life, such as the person, place, time, or object. Check whether your change also needs a different verb form, article, or adjective ending. If it does, compare it with the pattern in the explanation.
Use fica combinado once both people have accepted the arrangement; repeat details when time, place, or responsibility matters.
Return to two prompts tomorrow without opening the answers first. If a phrase still feels difficult, shorten it to a useful chunk and build the complete sentence again.
