Give a Short Thank-You Speech in Portuguese — Practice
A guided practice lesson with English explanations, Brazilian Portuguese examples, and answers you can check. Read the examples, recall the meaning, then say a version of your own.
Open with a greeting and purpose
Start by greeting the group and saying why you want to speak. Queria agradecer (I wanted to thank) is a warm way to introduce your message.
Keep the opening brief so listeners know who you are thanking and what they helped with.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| Queria agradecer a todos por estarem aqui. | I’d like to thank everyone for being here. |
| Quero dizer algumas palavras sobre a equipe. | I want to say a few words about the team. |
| É muito bom comemorar com vocês. | It’s great to celebrate with you. |
Name one specific contribution
Mention a concrete action, such as helping organize an event or supporting a project. A specific thank-you feels more personal than a generic compliment.
Use obrigado or obrigada according to the speaker’s gender when you thank someone directly.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| Obrigado por toda a ajuda na organização. | Thank you for all your help with the organization. |
| Quero reconhecer o trabalho de cada pessoa da equipe. | I want to recognize each person on the team. |
| Sem vocês, este dia não teria sido igual. | Without you, this day would not have been the same. |
Close with a warm wish
End with a wish for the group or a short invitation to raise a glass if the event calls for it. Saúde is a common toast, but the occasion may call for a different closing.

| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| Espero que vocês aproveitem a noite. | I hope you enjoy the evening. |
| Muito obrigado por fazerem parte deste momento. | Thank you very much for being part of this moment. |
| Um brinde a todos nós! | A toast to all of us! |
Remember: Write three short parts: a greeting, one specific thank-you, and a warm closing. Practice them aloud at a comfortable pace.
Check your understanding
Choose the English meaning of each Portuguese example. Answer before looking back at the tables. These questions check the written examples in this guide; they are not a listening or proficiency test.
Recall the Portuguese, then say it
Read the English prompt and say a Portuguese version before opening the answer. The answer shows the example from the lesson; other natural translations may also work. Compare the meaning and the situation rather than counting a different word as automatically wrong.
I’d like to thank everyone for being here.

Make the phrase useful to you
Choose one example you could actually use. Say it once from memory, then change one detail that fits your life, such as the person, place, time, or object. Check whether your change also needs a different verb form, article, or adjective ending. If it does, compare it with the pattern in the explanation.
Write three short parts: a greeting, one specific thank-you, and a warm closing. Practice them aloud at a comfortable pace.
Return to two prompts tomorrow without opening the answers first. If a phrase still feels difficult, shorten it to a useful chunk and build the complete sentence again.
