Levar em Conta: How to Say ‘Take Into Account’ in Portuguese — Practice
A guided practice lesson with English explanations, Brazilian Portuguese examples, and answers you can check. Read the examples, recall the meaning, then say a version of your own.
Use levar em conta before a decision
Levar em conta means to consider something as part of a decision or plan. It often introduces a practical factor—time, distance, cost, someone’s needs, or a possible change—that could affect what you choose.
You can name the object directly after the expression or use em conta que before a clause. Considerar is a shorter alternative, while levar em conta often makes the act of weighing a factor feel explicit.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| Precisamos levar em conta o tempo de viagem. | We need to take the travel time into account. |
| Leva em conta que a loja fecha às seis. | Take into account that the store closes at six. |
| Ela levou as crianças em conta ao escolher o hotel. | She took the children into account when choosing the hotel. |
Use a subject form that matches the person deciding
The expression changes with the subject: levo em conta (I take into account), leva em conta (you/he/she takes into account), and levamos em conta (we take into account). In Brazilian conversation, a gente leva em conta uses the singular verb form leva.
For a softer suggestion, say vale a pena levar em conta… (it is worth considering…). That lets you offer a factor without presenting it as a command.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| A gente leva em conta o orçamento antes de reservar. | We take the budget into account before booking. |
| Vou levar sua sugestão em conta. | I’ll take your suggestion into account. |
| Vale a pena levar em conta a distância. | It’s worth taking the distance into account. |
Remember: Use levar em conta to name a factor that should be considered before someone decides, books, or makes a plan.

Make the phrase useful to you
Choose one example you could actually use. Say it once from memory, then change one detail that fits your life, such as the person, place, time, or object. Check whether your change also needs a different verb form, article, or adjective ending. If it does, compare it with the pattern in the explanation.
Use levar em conta to name a factor that should be considered before someone decides, books, or makes a plan.
Return to two prompts tomorrow without opening the answers first. If a phrase still feels difficult, shorten it to a useful chunk and build the complete sentence again.
