Portuguese for University Group Projects in Brazil: Divide Tasks and Set Deadlines — Practice
A guided practice lesson with English explanations, Brazilian Portuguese examples, and answers you can check. Read the examples, recall the meaning, then say a version of your own.
Confirm what the group needs to deliver
Before dividing the work, make sure everyone understands the same assignment. A group may be preparing slides, a written report, or both, so ask what the professor expects you to submit. In Brazilian Portuguese, combinar means to arrange or agree on something together.
A short recap can prevent duplicated work and missed requirements. Ask where the instructions are posted if the group is unsure.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| O que a gente precisa entregar no final? | What do we need to submit at the end? |
| Vamos combinar as etapas antes de dividir as partes? | Shall we agree on the steps before dividing the sections? |
Assign roles and set realistic deadlines
Use ficar responsável por to say who will take responsibility for a task. Include a date for sharing a draft, not only the final deadline. That gives the group time to review and combine everyone's work.
Use até sexta-feira for by Friday. A question such as esse prazo funciona para todo mundo? checks whether the plan is realistic for the group.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| Eu posso ficar responsável pela introdução. | I can take responsibility for the introduction. |
| A gente consegue revisar tudo na quinta? | Can we review everything on Thursday? |
Share progress before a problem becomes urgent
If your part is delayed, say so as soon as you know. Explain what is finished, what remains, and when you can send a draft. Ask another student to review one specific point rather than sending a vague message like está bom? (is it good?).
Keep the tone collaborative: posso ajudar com alguma parte? means can I help with any part? Confirm the next step in the group chat so everyone has the same plan.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| Terminei a pesquisa e envio o rascunho amanhã. | I finished the research and will send the draft tomorrow. |
| Você pode conferir se os exemplos estão claros? | Can you check whether the examples are clear? |
Remember: Confirm the deliverable, agree on each person's task and deadline, and share progress early.
Check your understanding
Choose the English meaning of each Portuguese example. Answer before looking back at the tables. These questions check the written examples in this guide; they are not a listening or proficiency test.
Recall the Portuguese, then say it
Read the English prompt and say a Portuguese version before opening the answer. The answer shows the example from the lesson; other natural translations may also work. Compare the meaning and the situation rather than counting a different word as automatically wrong.

Make the phrase useful to you
Choose one example you could actually use. Say it once from memory, then change one detail that fits your life, such as the person, place, time, or object. Check whether your change also needs a different verb form, article, or adjective ending. If it does, compare it with the pattern in the explanation.
Confirm the deliverable, agree on each person's task and deadline, and share progress early.
Return to two prompts tomorrow without opening the answers first. If a phrase still feels difficult, shorten it to a useful chunk and build the complete sentence again.
