A Brazilian Portuguese Job Interview: Introduce Yourself and Your Experience — Practice
A guided practice lesson with English explanations, Brazilian Portuguese examples, and answers you can check. Read the examples, recall the meaning, then say a version of your own.
Prepare a short professional introduction
A clear introduction can cover your current role, one area of experience, and what kind of opportunity you are seeking. Keep it relevant to the position and use language you can say comfortably. You do not need to translate a long résumé aloud.
Use trabalho com (I work with), tenho experiência em (I have experience in), and sou responsável por (I’m responsible for) to explain your background. Name concrete tasks rather than relying on vague adjectives such as dinâmico or proativo without an example.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| Trabalho com atendimento ao cliente há três anos. | I’ve worked in customer service for three years. |
| Tenho experiência em organizar projetos e acompanhar prazos. | I have experience organizing projects and tracking deadlines. |
| Sou responsável por preparar relatórios para a equipe. | I’m responsible for preparing reports for the team. |
Explain one result with a simple story
When an interviewer asks for an example, describe the situation, your action, and the result in a few sentences. Use trabalhei (I worked), ajudei (I helped), organizei (I organized), or aprendi (I learned) to make your role clear. If the result was shared, say that the team achieved it rather than claiming all the credit.
A concrete example can come from paid work, a course, volunteering, or a personal project, as long as you label it accurately. Prepare one short story that shows a skill relevant to the role and practice it without memorizing every word.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| A equipe tinha pouco tempo, então organizei as tarefas por prioridade. | The team had little time, so I organized the tasks by priority. |
| Ajudei a reduzir erros ao revisar o processo com meus colegas. | I helped reduce errors by reviewing the process with my colleagues. |
| Nesse projeto, aprendi a explicar dados para pessoas de outras áreas. | In that project, I learned how to explain data to people in other departments. |
Ask about the role and confirm the next step
An interview is also a chance to understand the position. Ask about a typical day, the people you would work with, and how the team defines success. Choose a question that matters to your decision instead of asking something only to fill the silence.
If you did not understand a question, ask for a repeat or a rephrasing. At the end, confirm the next step and thank the interviewer. Specific requests for clarification help you give an accurate answer in a second language.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| Como é um dia típico nessa função? | What is a typical day like in this role? |
| Quais seriam as prioridades nos primeiros meses? | What would the priorities be in the first few months? |
| Você poderia repetir a última parte da pergunta? | Could you repeat the last part of the question? |
Remember: Prepare a one-minute introduction, one true work example, and two questions about the role. Practice the key ideas so you can adapt them to the interviewer’s wording.
Check your understanding
Choose the English meaning of each Portuguese example. Answer before looking back at the tables. These questions check the written examples in this guide; they are not a listening or proficiency test.
Recall the Portuguese, then say it
Read the English prompt and say a Portuguese version before opening the answer. The answer shows the example from the lesson; other natural translations may also work. Compare the meaning and the situation rather than counting a different word as automatically wrong.

Make the phrase useful to you
Choose one example you could actually use. Say it once from memory, then change one detail that fits your life, such as the person, place, time, or object. Check whether your change also needs a different verb form, article, or adjective ending. If it does, compare it with the pattern in the explanation.
Prepare a one-minute introduction, one true work example, and two questions about the role. Practice the key ideas so you can adapt them to the interviewer’s wording.
Return to two prompts tomorrow without opening the answers first. If a phrase still feels difficult, shorten it to a useful chunk and build the complete sentence again.
