Portuguese at a Museum in Brazil: Tickets, Exhibits, and Questions — Practice
A guided practice lesson with English explanations, Brazilian Portuguese examples, and answers you can check. Read the examples, recall the meaning, then say a version of your own.
Ask about admission and opening hours
At the entrance, ask whether tickets are available and what time the museum closes. Ingresso means ticket, entrada means admission or entrance, and horário de funcionamento means opening hours.
Hours, prices, and reservation rules can change. Check the museum’s current information and use Portuguese to confirm anything that is unclear.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| Ainda tem ingresso para hoje? | Are there still tickets for today? |
| Que horas o museu fecha? | What time does the museum close? |
| Preciso reservar com antecedência? | Do I need to book in advance? |
Find an exhibit or audio guide
Exposição means exhibition, and andar means floor or level. If you are looking for a particular collection, ask where it is and whether an audio guide is available.
Use pode me indicar (can you point me to) when asking a staff member for directions. You can also ask whether photos are allowed before taking one.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| Onde fica a exposição de fotografia? | Where is the photography exhibit? |
| Tem audioguia em inglês? | Is there an audio guide in English? |
| É permitido tirar fotos? | Is taking photos allowed? |
Ask a question about what you see
A simple observation can lead to a short conversation: diga o nome da obra (say the name of the work) or pergunte de que época ela é (ask what period it is from). If you do not know a specialist word, point politely and ask what something is called.
For more travel exchanges, our guides to hotel check-in and asking for directions cover other practical situations in Brazil.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| Como se chama esta obra? | What is this work called? |
| De que época é esta peça? | What period is this piece from? |
| Pode explicar esta placa? | Could you explain this sign? |
Remember: Before a museum visit, practice one question about tickets, one about an exhibit, and one about visitor rules. Check current details with the museum.
Check your understanding
Choose the English meaning of each Portuguese example. Answer before looking back at the tables. These questions check the written examples in this guide; they are not a listening or proficiency test.
Recall the Portuguese, then say it
Read the English prompt and say a Portuguese version before opening the answer. The answer shows the example from the lesson; other natural translations may also work. Compare the meaning and the situation rather than counting a different word as automatically wrong.

Make the phrase useful to you
Choose one example you could actually use. Say it once from memory, then change one detail that fits your life, such as the person, place, time, or object. Check whether your change also needs a different verb form, article, or adjective ending. If it does, compare it with the pattern in the explanation.
Before a museum visit, practice one question about tickets, one about an exhibit, and one about visitor rules. Check current details with the museum.
Return to two prompts tomorrow without opening the answers first. If a phrase still feels difficult, shorten it to a useful chunk and build the complete sentence again.

This I Speak Portuguese practice guide builds on our Portuguese at a Museum in Brazil: Tickets, Exhibits, and Questions lesson on Real Life Portuguese, with written recall tasks and additional speaking practice. The explanations and examples are teaching material; the practice questions are exercises, not a transcript of a recording.
