Explain Your Service Price in Portuguese: Estimates and Options — Practice
A guided practice lesson with English explanations, Brazilian Portuguese examples, and answers you can check. Read the examples, recall the meaning, then say a version of your own.
Explain what an estimate covers
Orçamento can mean a quote, estimate, or budget, depending on context. State which service, project period, and deliverables the amount covers. If the estimate is preliminary, say orçamento inicial and explain what information could change it.
Separate the price from any items that are not included. The client can then compare options without guessing what is part of the total.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| Este orçamento cobre a configuração e o treinamento inicial. | This estimate covers setup and initial training. |
| O valor pode mudar depois que eu analisar os arquivos. | The amount may change after I review the files. |
Offer options that match different needs
Use opção básica and opção completa to distinguish a smaller service from a broader one. Explain what changes between the two rather than simply calling one ‘better.’
If you can divide the work into stages, say which items would happen first and which can be added later. Do not promise a result that depends on information or approvals the client has not supplied.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| A opção básica inclui uma página; a completa inclui cinco. | The basic option includes one page; the complete one includes five. |
| Podemos começar pela primeira etapa e decidir depois. | We can start with the first stage and decide later. |
Answer a request to lower the price
If a client asks for a lower price, clarify which part of the work they want to adjust. Reducing scope is often clearer than agreeing to do the same work for an amount you cannot support.
Use Para chegar a esse valor, podemos… to introduce a tradeoff. Then write down which deliverables or rounds change.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| Para chegar a esse valor, podemos retirar a etapa de pesquisa. | To reach that price, we can remove the research stage. |
| Prefere reduzir o escopo ou dividir o projeto em etapas? | Would you prefer to reduce the scope or divide the project into stages? |
Remember: Explain the estimate's assumptions and compare options by naming exactly what each one includes.
Check your understanding
Choose the English meaning of each Portuguese example. Answer before looking back at the tables. These questions check the written examples in this guide; they are not a listening or proficiency test.
Recall the Portuguese, then say it
Read the English prompt and say a Portuguese version before opening the answer. The answer shows the example from the lesson; other natural translations may also work. Compare the meaning and the situation rather than counting a different word as automatically wrong.

Make the phrase useful to you
Choose one example you could actually use. Say it once from memory, then change one detail that fits your life, such as the person, place, time, or object. Check whether your change also needs a different verb form, article, or adjective ending. If it does, compare it with the pattern in the explanation.
Explain the estimate's assumptions and compare options by naming exactly what each one includes.
Return to two prompts tomorrow without opening the answers first. If a phrase still feels difficult, shorten it to a useful chunk and build the complete sentence again.
