How to Order Food Delivery in Portuguese in Brazil — Practice
A guided practice lesson with English explanations, Brazilian Portuguese examples, and answers you can check. Read the examples, recall the meaning, then say a version of your own.
Write a short, useful delivery note
A delivery note works best when it gives one practical instruction at a time: the apartment number, a landmark, or where to leave the order if that option is available. Add a polite phrase such as por favor.
If the building has a reception desk or gate, confirm the local procedure before relying on a note. Portaria can mean a building’s front desk or gatehouse, depending on the context.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| Apartamento 304. Toque o interfone, por favor. | Apartment 304. Please buzz the intercom. |
| A entrada fica ao lado da farmácia. | The entrance is next to the pharmacy. |
| Pode deixar na portaria? | Can you leave it at the front desk? |
Confirm an ingredient or order detail
To request an ingredient change, name it directly: sem cebola (without onion) or sem pimenta (without chili pepper). Ask the restaurant to confirm if the change matters for an allergy or dietary need.
When a detail is missing, reference the item and ask a clear question. This is more useful than sending a long message with several separate requests.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| Este pedido é sem cebola? | Is this order without onion? |
| Pode confirmar o número do pedido? | Could you confirm the order number? |
| Faltou uma bebida. Pode verificar? | A drink is missing. Could you check? |
Ask about the estimated arrival
If an order is taking longer than expected, ask politely whether there is an updated estimate. Previsão de entrega means delivery estimate, and ainda está a caminho means it is still on the way.
For face-to-face orders, see our Brazilian restaurant guide. Delivery phrases focus on written notes and short messages after placing an order.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| Qual é a previsão de entrega? | What is the estimated delivery time? |
| O pedido ainda está a caminho? | Is the order still on the way? |
| Obrigado pela ajuda. | Thank you for your help. |
Remember: Draft a delivery note with your apartment or entrance detail, then practice one message to confirm an ingredient and one to ask about arrival.
Check your understanding
Choose the English meaning of each Portuguese example. Answer before looking back at the tables. These questions check the written examples in this guide; they are not a listening or proficiency test.
Recall the Portuguese, then say it
Read the English prompt and say a Portuguese version before opening the answer. The answer shows the example from the lesson; other natural translations may also work. Compare the meaning and the situation rather than counting a different word as automatically wrong.

Make the phrase useful to you
Choose one example you could actually use. Say it once from memory, then change one detail that fits your life, such as the person, place, time, or object. Check whether your change also needs a different verb form, article, or adjective ending. If it does, compare it with the pattern in the explanation.
Draft a delivery note with your apartment or entrance detail, then practice one message to confirm an ingredient and one to ask about arrival.
Return to two prompts tomorrow without opening the answers first. If a phrase still feels difficult, shorten it to a useful chunk and build the complete sentence again.
