Give a Research Project Update in Brazilian Portuguese — Practice
A guided practice lesson with English explanations, Brazilian Portuguese examples, and answers you can check. Read the examples, recall the meaning, then say a version of your own.
State the question and stage of your work
A concise research update begins with the question you are investigating and the stage the project has reached. Use pesquisa or projeto de pesquisa for research project, and rascunho or versão preliminar for a draft. Do not say a result proves something if your evidence only suggests a possibility.
A simple structure works in a meeting or written update: what I planned, what I did, what I found so far, and what I will do next.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| Minha pesquisa investiga como os alunos usam áudio para estudar. | My research looks at how students use audio to study. |
| Concluí a revisão inicial das fontes. | I finished the initial review of the sources. |
Describe a problem and ask for targeted guidance
If your work is blocked, explain the problem and the options you have considered. Ask whether your question is too broad, a source fits the scope, or which method to investigate next. Ainda não consegui… (I have not yet managed to…) is a clear way to describe a difficulty.
If evidence is incomplete, mark it as preliminary: os resultados preliminares sugerem… (the preliminary results suggest…).
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| Ainda não consegui encontrar fontes para este recorte. | I have not yet managed to find sources for this focus. |
| Você acha que a pergunta ainda está muito ampla? | Do you think the question is still too broad? |
Agree on a realistic next milestone
End by naming the next piece of work and a date to review it. If a deadline depends on feedback, say so and ask when a check-in would be possible. Keep a note of the agreed scope and next meeting.
Promise a realistic deliverable: a revised outline may be more useful than promising a complete chapter you cannot finish.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| Até sexta-feira, envio um novo esboço com três fontes principais. | By Friday, I will send a new outline with three main sources. |
| Podemos conversar sobre a próxima etapa na semana que vem? | Could we talk about the next stage next week? |
Remember: Describe progress precisely, mark preliminary findings as tentative, and finish with one concrete milestone and review date.
Check your understanding
Choose the English meaning of each Portuguese example. Answer before looking back at the tables. These questions check the written examples in this guide; they are not a listening or proficiency test.
Recall the Portuguese, then say it
Read the English prompt and say a Portuguese version before opening the answer. The answer shows the example from the lesson; other natural translations may also work. Compare the meaning and the situation rather than counting a different word as automatically wrong.

Make the phrase useful to you
Choose one example you could actually use. Say it once from memory, then change one detail that fits your life, such as the person, place, time, or object. Check whether your change also needs a different verb form, article, or adjective ending. If it does, compare it with the pattern in the explanation.
Describe progress precisely, mark preliminary findings as tentative, and finish with one concrete milestone and review date.
Return to two prompts tomorrow without opening the answers first. If a phrase still feels difficult, shorten it to a useful chunk and build the complete sentence again.
Sources and your next lesson
This I Speak Portuguese practice guide builds on our Give a Research Project Update in Brazilian Portuguese lesson on Real Life Portuguese, with written recall tasks and additional speaking practice. The explanations and examples are teaching material; the practice questions are exercises, not a transcript of a recording.
To add Brazilian audio to your routine, choose a lesson in the Real Life Portuguese app. The app offers its own lessons and practice; this page does not imply that every example here has an app recording.
