Portuguese for Client Onboarding: Gather Project Requirements — Practice
A guided practice lesson with English explanations, Brazilian Portuguese examples, and answers you can check. Read the examples, recall the meaning, then say a version of your own.
Welcome the client and explain the kickoff
Kickoff meeting is often used in Brazilian workplaces, but reunião inicial is an easy Portuguese alternative. Explain the purpose of the first meeting and which people need to attend.
Ask who will approve decisions and which contact person can answer day-to-day questions. That prevents messages from getting lost among several stakeholders.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| Na reunião inicial, vamos confirmar objetivos e responsabilidades. | At the kickoff meeting, we'll confirm goals and responsibilities. |
| Quem será a pessoa responsável pelas aprovações? | Who will be responsible for approvals? |
Request the files and details you need
Use material de referência for reference material, arquivo for file, and acesso for access. Ask which files already exist and where the client prefers to share them.
Request only what you need for the project. If a permission or login is required, follow the client's approved process instead of asking them to send sensitive credentials in a message.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| Você pode compartilhar os arquivos de referência nesta pasta? | Can you share the reference files in this folder? |
| Qual versão do documento devemos usar? | Which version of the document should we use? |
Agree on communication and approvals
Ask which channel the team uses for project updates and how quickly it expects to review drafts. Prazo de aprovação means approval deadline; responsável means the person responsible.
Summarize the agreed workflow in writing so the client can correct anything before the work begins.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| Preferem receber atualizações por e-mail ou mensagem? | Do you prefer to receive updates by email or message? |
| Quem aprova a versão final? | Who approves the final version? |
Remember: A clear onboarding conversation identifies goals, owners, files, communication channels, and approval steps.
Check your understanding
Choose the English meaning of each Portuguese example. Answer before looking back at the tables. These questions check the written examples in this guide; they are not a listening or proficiency test.
Recall the Portuguese, then say it
Read the English prompt and say a Portuguese version before opening the answer. The answer shows the example from the lesson; other natural translations may also work. Compare the meaning and the situation rather than counting a different word as automatically wrong.
At the kickoff meeting, we'll confirm goals and responsibilities.

Make the phrase useful to you
Choose one example you could actually use. Say it once from memory, then change one detail that fits your life, such as the person, place, time, or object. Check whether your change also needs a different verb form, article, or adjective ending. If it does, compare it with the pattern in the explanation.
A clear onboarding conversation identifies goals, owners, files, communication channels, and approval steps.
Return to two prompts tomorrow without opening the answers first. If a phrase still feels difficult, shorten it to a useful chunk and build the complete sentence again.
